Chapter 1's Figure 1 is a graph that shows the projected growth of the U.S. population aged 65 years or older from 1990 to 2050. There are three projections. The high projection shows an increase in this age group from about 30 million in 1990 to 100 million in 2050. The middle projection shows this population rising from about 30 million to 80 million. The low projection shows the population increasing from about 30 million to about 58 million.
