Figure 2.2 is a U.S. map showing any illicit drug use in past month among youths aged 12 to 17, by State: percentages, annual averages based on 2002 and 2003 NSDUHs. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (13.35 to 16.67 percent) were Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Vermont, and Washington. States in the next highest group (12.24 to 13.34 percent) were Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, and South Dakota. States in the mid group (11.40 to 12.23 percent) were Arkansas, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Kentucky, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Virginia, and West Virginia. States in the next lowest group (10.43 to 11.39 percent) were Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. States in the lowest group (8.76 to 10.42 percent) were Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
