The DASIS Report: Treatment Completion in the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS)

Highlights:

  • Persons who completed their substance abuse treatment were classified as a treatment success.

  • About half (51 percent) of substance abuse treatment episodes resulted in successful treatment outcomes.

  • Treatment completion rates were highest among episodes where the primary substance of abuse was either alcohol abuse (58 percent) or stimulant (primarily methamphetamines) abuse (55 percent).  

  • The substance abuse treatment completion rate was highest (73 percent) for episodes in residential short-term (30 days or less) and hospital settings.

DASIS is conducted by the Office of Applied Studies (OAS) in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
